Kitchen Cabinet: Annabel Crabb's custard slice with brown butter and rum

This dessert was invented for Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, who apparently isn't a huge fan of pineapple, which obliged me to look at Queensland's next-most-famous flavour profile: rum.

For the custard slice I took to his house, I actually made a double quantity of custard, in two batches, because I wanted the custard slice to be extremely high, and I put an extra layer of pastry between the two batches of custard. The result was about five kilos of custard slice which I strained my shoulder carrying through the airport.
